Academic Education & Work Career:
Dr. Hou (Xingliang Hou) received his B.S. and M.S. from Northeast Agricultural University in 1997 and 2000, respectively, and his Ph.D from Zhejiang University in 2004. After postdoctoral research at National Uinversity of Singapore and Temasek Life Science Laboratory from 2006-2011, he joined SCBG as a Professor in 2012.
Research Interest:
Our research field is molecular biology of plant development.
Seeds are the beginning of plant life and determine the continuation of plant species. In agriculture, seeds are directly related to crop yield and quality, and their developmental processes are determined by complex and precise molecular regulatory networks. Using the methods of molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics, we are currently studying: 1. The molecular mechanism of plant seed development. Explore the signal exchange and interaction between embryo and endosperm, zygote and maternal tissue, seed and plant during seed development, and reveal the involvement of plant hormones (gibberellins) in plant seed development and resistance responses at the molecular level. 2. Research on the regulation mechanism of crop quality. Included research on the molecular basis of soybean seed development and the formation of major quality traits (protein, oil, etc.), to provide theoretical basis for improving crop-related economic traits.
