The Agriculture and Biotechnology Research Center oriented by the development of agricultural science and botany disciplines,under the traction of the construction requirements of South China National Botanical Garden,Focuses on scientific issues of quality control and quality safety of agricultural and resource plants. It aims to explore favorable gene resources and bioactive substances, reveal the formation mechanism of comprehensive good agronomic trait, promote germplasm innovation and breeding that meet the regional demands in South China, research and develop efficient and intensive key technologies and products, impelling a healthy development of resource plant utilization and intelligent agriculture in South China.
The director of the research center is Prof. HOU Xingliang, and the deputy directors are Prof. YANG Ziyin, DUAN Xuewu, and YANG Bao. The laboratory have three major Research Group:Agricultural Plant Germplasm Innovation Group (led by HOU Xingliang)、Plant Resource Research and Development Group (led by WANG Ying) and Storage and processing of Fruit and Vegetable Group (led by JIANG Yueming). At present, the laboratory has 76 researchers, including 26 professors, 31 associate professors, 17 assistant professors, 1 senior engineer and 1 engineer. There are 34 post-doctors staff, 56 enrolled doctoral students, and 114 enrolled master students. 15 PhD students and 41 Ms students graduated in 2024.
In 2024, the laboratory obtained 96 scientific research projects with the funds of 59.24 million Yuan (RMB) in total. Among these projects, 37 projects were from Ministry of Science and Technology or National Natural Science Foundation of China, 13 projects from CAS, 35 grants from local government of Guangdong province, and 11 grants from other sources.117papers had been published in SCI journals (54, 14 and 35 of the papers were published in the journals of the top 10%, with an impact factor> 10, and with an impact factor > 7, respectively). In addition, the laboratory obtained 30 national invention patents, 11 were approved as National or Provincial new varieties, 13 evaluation of new varieties, 26 new international varieties, as well as 3 prizes of science and technology. Our lab developed 2 industry technical standard, 1 published monograph,and 11 software copyrights.
